Motivation and dataset
According to recent estimations around 50 percent of the worldwide coral reefs are critically endangered or already completely dead. In 2019 I was diving at the Great Barrier Reef and some spots looked actually very sad and dead, we even walked on some beaches consisting only of washed up coral parts.

My dataset was as many others of this course from “kaggle.com”. I also had a data set from the Harvard University but it was not as big and well documented as the one from the Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office. Link to my dataset here
Dataset in numbers:
- first use on data visualization project at HfG
- 41 362 measurements
- 62 columns of information for each measurement
- across 5 oceans
- 7 Realms, a more specific area division
- from 1980 to 2020, but almost no data before 1998
- interesting values: percent bleaching, date, water turbidity, depth in m, cyclone frequency, standard surface temperature, windspeed
